Hi, Friends! We are back for another week of weekend wellness tips and tricks. To continue our discussion from last week on spring cleaning, this week, we thought we would touch on organization. An organized home is generally a clean home – and these tips and tricks are easy to implement for you and your family.

One in One Out Rule
This tip alone will save major time and energy, especially with children… or in our closets, if we are being real! For every item you bring in, you must also donate/sell/discard one item. For example, if you see an adorable shirt on sale, when you get home, you have to go through your closet and find a shirt to donate. The same goes for the kiddies. Did they get a new toy from grandparents? That is awesome! But, now one must be donated to make room for that new toy.
Label Everything
I have loved a good label maker since I was young… but everything having it’s space is a great way to contain like items. Not only will this give guidance for your spouse and kids as to where things belong it also prevents just setting something somewhere without knowing where it belongs. Containers are a great way to keep yourself in check for purchasing new items too (see the one in one out rule to avoid container overflow!)
Use a Tray in Areas that are a Pain Point
Do you have an area of your home where no matter how tidy you feel, there always seems to be clutter? For me, it is my entryway. Shoes, coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, boots, backpacks, purses, LEGO guys, work bags, lunch bags, mail, keys, the coffee cup from my car, a random hammer that has to get back to the garage, packages – you name it enters that very small space. We use a tray that holds all of the miscellaneous items that need to be gone through. Then, the space looks picked up, even if there is a pile of things that I need to go through at the end of the evening. Personally, my goal is to take care of those every night before bed.
Let Go of Guilt for Removing Items in Your Home
I personally do not struggle with this, but I know a lot of people that really have a hard time getting rid of items in their homes. Maybe they were gifted something from someone and just don’t want to part with it because they are worried the person will be upset… even though they have never liked it. We cannot keep all of those items in our home, they just create clutter. A great book on this topic is Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
Switch to Matching Hangers
This one is a bit frivolous but really does make a huge difference. Switching out hangers to all matching hangers in your closet is really a game-changer. This is a quick way to make your closet look more organized. Our personal favorites are sleek velvet hangers or wooden hangers. Velvet hangers are slim and perfect for smaller closets and don’t allow for your clothes to slip off. Wooden hangers provide great support and are ascetically beautiful.
Use Drawer Dividers
From your junk drawer to your craft closet, using drawer dividers is a great way to keep things organized. Pro Tip: Look for adjustable drawer dividers that can be extended to fit your drawer.
